A Note From the Director Regarding the Delivery of Library Materials

A note regarding delivery delays (1)
To Our Valued Patrons,
I know that you are frustrated by the long wait periods you’ve experienced to receive books, DVDs and other materials over the last month. I am too. As someone who values the role Lee Memorial Library plays in the Allendale community, and the trust you’ve place in my staff and me to carry out that role, I want to be forthcoming with you about what is causing this problem.
At the beginning of 2018, the delivery system for all libraries in New Jersey was changed. A new vendor was contracted for the drop-off and pick-up of library materials.  Since then, service has been poor and improvement has been disappointingly slow.
In order to give LibraryLink NJ and the State Library, which oversee the delivery system, an interval to clear the backlog of items already in the delivery queue, the ability to place new hold requests through BCCLS has been disabled.  Once the responsible authorities can assure accurate and timely delivery, BCCLS will re-evaluate this decision.

Thank you for your patronage and support. Please know that Lee Memorial Library and BCCLS have been advocating on your behalf, and will continue to do so until this matter is resolved to our satisfaction.
Sincerely,
Alessandra Nicodemo, MLIS
Director, Lee Memorial Library
